Steampunk Western

One of my students had a great concept for a video game. After further work on it, he went in a steampunk approach to the setting. Well, I liked it before that but with steampunk, even better!

So I was inspired to work on this steampunk cowboy sketch. Only a little time in but I may try to finish and paint it.

Yeah, it's that time of year........another quick sketch.

Dragon Hunt Start

Sally, did not really believe her grandmother about dragons. But she grabbed a net and went out anyway.

Something quick and fun

Liked the way the face started to come together. I limited myself to 30 mins for this just trying to work on broad shapes of color first.

Comments always welcome as I try to get this technique to not only look good but NOT take forever.

Still need to add some more to each of them, but I'm almost done with these.

Ok, I liked this old sketch and decided to keep on rolling with the digital painting.

A bit more

Didn't get much time to work on this, hopefully will have some good work time tonight. I want to work on the shield and arm a bit and then final detail on the face and neck.

It's getting there....

Closing in on the finishing touches, painting is a lot more involved and exciting than vector. With vector I have to plan out every shape in advance, with the painting I just get to do it!  Now if only the painting were resolution independent.

Should have this one finished this week.

Painting update

After yardwork and yard projects and dinner and kids I got some time to paint some more.

Not a bad days work but I hope I can get more done tomorrow.

Painting start

I'm enjoying the process as much as I can. Spent some time creating brushes and playing with the settings. Then started rendering. Not a bad morning I would say. Looking forward to getting to work more on this. I will keep  posting updates as I go.

Now on to the yard work.

Almost done with the line work

Hope to have more time to work on this tomorrow. Would like to have all the line work done and move on to painting. I have decided to stick with Photoshop for this experiment.

Human Fighter cont.

Finishing up the sketch before moving to color. Still deciding if I will go with Illustrator or keep the entire thing painted in Photoshop.  Probably won't be able to work in the mornings for the rest of the week, so later posts as I keep going.

Human Fighter

TheArtOrder blog has a human fighter challenge going on right now. Never sure if I will make the deadlines for these things, but it's great to draw. I like the torso and arms on this guy, just not feeling the legs yet. Oh well, time to go to my jobby job, so this will have to wait.

My sons.......

The finished image of the perfect definition of my three boys. While I type the 2 year old is behind me asking over and over again what I'm doing. I love them all, but sometimes I could do with some peace and quiet.

New Sketch

One of my favorite parts of drawing is the initial sketching. I enjoy working out the poses for the characters and the composition that will help tell a story. There is so much energy and creative excitement during this phase that it just makes me happy. This is the start to a new illustration for my wife.......she does keep me busy doesn't she?

Update on the Sandcastle

Pretty close to done on this one.

I want to take a day or two and then look at it again. give me time to work on some other sketches that I need to get done.

Some practice....

I was cleaning up some old files and found this practice paint. I like the painting process, but I need to work a lot more at it to get the speed needed for clients.

Sand construction

So, this is the next image for the boys room. Just getting started on tightening up the sketch, more to do on the castle before I can go on to vector.  Have a good night all.........or whoever actually might look at this. :)

Another request from the wife...

 My wife wants new art for the boys room, beach/sailing/ocean stuff she said...oh and the colors have to match the bedspreads?????

Playing around with new workflow

Having fun with starting with vector and finishing with PS.

I think I will call this done.

Just something for fun, mixing some Photoshop into the final steps of the process to get some more texture.
